The Painted Emu began with a name full of love and laughter. When my niece was little, she couldn’t quite say my name—so she called me “Aunty Emu.” I melted. It stuck. Years later, when I started sharing more of my art, that nickname came back to me—bright, a little quirky, and full of heart. Just like this collection.
Truthfully, I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time. I don’t have the patience to practice techniques over and over until they’re perfect. I try things. I play. Some mediums I enjoy, others I try once and promptly decide
never again. What you see here are the pieces I was proud of—many others didn’t make the cut (and that’s okay). This site isn’t about perfection or polish. It’s about sharing beauty, creativity, and the little spark that happens when you try something new. Feel free to explore and tell me what you see—what you feel, what you like, or even what doesn’t land for you. Art is better when it starts a conversation.
